About Tyra

Tyra Denine is an award-winning educator, author, and proud U.S. Navy veteran with more than 12 years of experience inspiring students both inside and outside the classroom. As an experienced middle school mathematics teacher, she is passionate about helping children build confidence, overcome challenges, and discover the joy of learning.

Her writing reflects that same passion for encouraging others. Through heartfelt memoirs, engaging fiction, and imaginative children's books, Tyra creates stories that inspire resilience, hope, kindness, and perseverance.

She is the author of Damaged Goods: A Self-Fulfilled Prophecy and Sometimes the Sun Don't Shine, as well as the creator of The Adventures of Tyra, a children's picture book series that celebrates curiosity, confidence, family, and everyday adventures through the eyes of a young girl named Tyra and her best friend, Cody.

Whether speaking to students, connecting with readers, or writing her next story, Tyra's mission is simple: to encourage every child and every adult to believe that their story matters and that every challenge can become the beginning of something extraordinary.
